ELLEN IRENE ISABELLE BLACKLER ASHE
Ellen was born on 22 August 1905 in Boudja, Smyrna, Turkey. She was the second daughter of the Rev. Robert Pickering Ashe and Edith Blackler. She went for a short time to school in Bristol, while her father did an Exchange of Ministry at St. Werburg's Church in 1922.
She met her husband, Winthrop Buckingham while staying with her sister Mary in Granada, Spain. Winthrop was an American Citizen (born 1898). They were married in July 1929 in St Peter's Church, Croydon, and later moved to Tangier where they ran a Hotel 'El Farhar'.
They had six children:
Marilyn (born 1930) who married William Barclay Foster, an American from California. She was followed by twin girls.
Ida May married Francisco Pastrana from the Argentine in 1920. He died in 1982.
Barbara Ann married Pierre Le Mitouard, and lives in Brittany.
Zoe married Charles Daniel, and lives in Connecticut.
Desiree married (1) George Reed, and (2) Donald Cousens, and lives in Tangier and Spain.
Robert married Judy, and lives in America.
When Ellen and Win gave up the Hotel, they moved into five cottages on the Old Mountain, Tangier, where the children were all brought up.
Winthrop died in August 1975 and is buried in the Churchyard of St Andrew's, Tangier.
Ellen died in 1992, and is buried in the same grave.
