Extract from "Family History" by Rosemary Aldworth (née Johnston)
Left with three young children, Edgar remarried to a mature, no nonsense older daughter of a country family. Of this marriage two children were born:
Aileen, Edgar's second wife, was a charming woman, great support to Edgar and coped extremely well bringing up her big family. I remember her sense of humour and poise in dealing with difficult situations. The rest of the family tut-tutted over the relaxed way she brought up her own children, but she remained unruffled. Her stepchildren were grateful for her support as Edgar could be a stern and domineering father. I once heard Aileen sobbing in her bedroom and realised then that Edgar was not easy to live with and what an incredibly mature and loving person she was. Aileen died in her sixties very suddenly of a massive heart attack.
Aileen married Edgar SHANNON, son of Frederick William SCHAFER and Cornelia STROH.
