One of the first authentic references to the family is found in Hume's history: "A gentleman, called Roger Moore, much celebrated among his countrymen for valour and capacity, formed the project (in 1641) of expelling the English, and engaged all the heads of the native Irish in the conspiracy, especially Sir Phelim O'Neale, the representative of the Tyrone family, and Lord Maguire. Unable to control the fury of the Irish and horrified by their atrocities, Moore fled the country and went to Flanders.
The Moores ended up in Barbados, whether in the person of the Irish rebel, Roger Moore, who had previously fled from Ireland to Flanders, or in that of his son James Moore.

Roger married.
